Edelman reveals sponsorship and sports division

Edelman PR Worldwide has launched a pan-European sports and

sponsorship division to capitalise on increasing corporate interest in

the area.

The unit will be run by Nigel Jones, who has more than 15 years sports

and sponsorship experience and joins the agency from his own


Jo Gibbons, former special adviser to the previous leader of the House

of Lords Margaret Jay, has also been recruited as a specialist in sports

public affairs.

The pair will draw together the agency's existing expertise with around

15 specialists across Europe and fee revenues of £500,000.

Clients include yachtswoman Ellen MacArthur and the historic

motor-racing series Thoroughbred Grand Prix.

Edelman MD Ash Coleman-Smith said: 'The team will offer a range of

services from a highly creative approach to sponsorship exploitation, to

a very rigorous and formalised software-based approach to maximising

sponsorship value and auditioning.'

Coleman-Smith said the move had been made now because of corporate

interest in major upcoming events such as the 2002 football World Cup,

which will be held in Japan and South Korea.
