The business, which is headquartered in the US, is the world's 21st largest law firm by 2010 fee income and has grown significantly outside its home jurisdiction in recent years.

It is seeking a PR agency to support its international expansion, focusing on media relations in the business and trade media and general corporate profile raising.

PR manager for Europe, Middle East and Asia Jeyda Star said: 'We are looking at our approach to PR across all our offices (in the region) and raising the profile of the firm generally. We're currently speaking to a number of agencies to learn more about their capabilities as part of our review process.'

The process is understood to be in its early stages and no pitches have taken place. The firm's agency relationships in the US are not affected.

Reed Smith has 1,600 lawyers in 23 offices across the world. Last year it opened an office in Shanghai.

Meanwhile, UK-based contemporary Taylor Wessing is understood to have held pitches for a retained corporate PR brief in recent weeks. The international law firm currently uses Spada.
