Former building society the Alliance & Leicester (A&L) is facing a
corporate communications exodus, as 15 of its 17-strong team depart
ahead of the firm's relocation to Leicester from its London base.
The firm decided to take the unit to the Midlands, so it could work more
closely with its operational business unit.
Among those departing is group head of corporate communications Paul
Lockstone, who is to join Merlin Financial in December. His replacement
is investor relations head Stuart Dawkins.
The firm has used the departures to restructure the division, creating a
head of commercial relations position reporting to Dawkins.
The recruitment process is ongoing, with an appointment due by the end
of next month.
Saying that family reasons were behind his decision, Lockstone said the
departures were not down to geographical prejudice: 'It is not a
reflection on Leicester, it's just a matter of people's personal
Other staff to depart include press office head Michelle Pegley, who
takes maternity leave, and head of internal relations Helen Terry. A&L
has so far recruited to all but three of the positions.
'I'd be naive to say I don't envisage teething problems, but I expect
continuity from those promoted from within,' said Dawkins.
He added there were no immediate plans to review the bank's retained
agencies, although this was 'on the list' to be considered.
