29 July: Metro newspaper publishes first Sunday edition London. The Associated Newspapers' freesheet will expand operations over weekends during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Editions will carry extended Olympics coverage, news and features with 325,000 print copies available

30 July: Camden Fringe, London. Blending stand-up, sketch comedy, performance poetry, musical theatre, revivals, storytelling and dance.

31 July: Notting Hill Carnival media launch City Hall, London. This year's carnival takes place from 26-27 August.

1 August: Playday. A national day celebrating children's right to play in the UK and its importance in their lives.

2 August: London 2012 cyclists Chris Hoy and Jason Kenny defend their 2008 Olympic titles Olympic Velodrome. Women's sprint finals expected to feature Victoria Pendleton.

3 August: Olympic stadium hosts first events. Jessica Ennis begins her bid for women's heptathlon gold with 100m hurdles and high jump events followed by shot put and 200m.
