Burson-Marsteller's global chief executive Mark Penn is leaving to join client Microsoft as corporate vice-president of strategic and special projects. Don Baer, former Clinton White House aide, is stepping up from his role as worldwide vice-chairman to take Penn's position.

GCI Health has promoted Kim Sammons to market leader of its Atlanta office. Her predecessor, Valerie Lind, has been named head of the agency's corporate health and medical technology sectors.

The New Orleans Tourism Marketing CorpORATION has called in Dentsu America to handle a $5.3m (£3.37m) contract to promote the city as a must-visit destination. The brief includes supporting PR, identifying strategic partnerships with major national brands and co-ordinating social media and online marketing.

Jolie Hunt, former head of comms at Thomson Reuters, has joined AOL as chief marketing and comms officer. In the newly created role, Hunt is overseeing AOL's global comms strategy, including internal and external relations, social media, CSR and cause initiatives, as well as corporate events.

Porter Novelli has appointed Joe Shantz as senior vice-president for digital analytics. Most recently, Shantz worked at Yahoo as director of marketing insights.
