City & Corporate: UK shops top merger league

UK financial PR houses continue to dominate the global M&A markets, according to the mergermarket League Tables of PR advisers for the first half of 2012.

Brunswick and Finsbury were the top global advisers in terms of volume, having worked on deals worth $122m (£78m) and $112m (£71.7m) respectively.

US consultancy Sard Verbinnen & Co was third, followed by FTI Consulting and Stockwell Communications - the latter making its first appearance in the tables, having worked on the bumper Glencore/Xstrata deal.

FTI topped the table for global volumes ahead of Brunswick, having worked on 97 deals during the first six months of the year.

Overall, first-half global M&A of $968.5bn (£620bn) was down 18.3 per cent on the same period last year.
