E-commerce marketplace specialist Commerce One is staging a repitch
for its seven-figure PR business for the UK, Europe, Middle East, India
The B2B online software firm - listed on the Nasdaq with a market cap of
pounds 3.6bn - is reviewing external PR support less than a year after
setting up the agency network.
Up to 11 agencies could be affected by the review, including current UK
incumbent firm Write Image.
Commerce One director of corporate communications Patrick Meyer said the
first round of repitches would start at the end of July, with the UK,
Portugal and European network co-ordination remits up for grabs
The firm's rostered agencies include Documentos in Portugal, GCI in
France, Essential Media in Germany, Weber Shandwick Worldwide in Spain
and Porter Novelli in the Middle East.
Meyer said the review was 'a healthy process to go through' and stressed
it was not a reflection on the incumbents' performance.
'Despite the current market conditions, I view PR as critical to
continue our EMEIA expansion,' said Meyer. 'I have found it's a highly
effective tool to address regions with unsophisticated e-commerce
Meyer spent nine months developing the EMEIA agency network after he
joined last March from Brunswick.
Commerce One recently announced plans to cut ten per cent of its staff -
360 jobs - to cut costs in the face of the US technology slump.
