Tilston selected to be first comms head for the FSCS

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) - the umbrella

group for UK financial compensation claims - has recruited its first

head of communications, appointing Heather Tilston as PR chief.

Tilston joins from UNIFI, formerly known as the Banking and Insurance

Finance Union, where she worked for three years, most recently as head

of publicity.

Her appointment ends the FSCS' month-long search for a communications

Tilston, who reports to FSCS chief executive Suzanne McCarthy, will work

on a brief to create and maintain a profile for the FSCS, which launches

in November. She will develop communication strategies and manage

external retained agency, HBL Media.

'The brief includes building relationships with journalists and the

industry,' said Tilston.

The FSCS is being created by the merger of seven existing schemes for

customers of banks, building societies, insurers and independent

financial advisers.

The group launched its website this week ahead of the body's official

launch when the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 comes into

effect later this year.
