Pepe Jeans set to drive Euro sales with comms head

UK clothes retailer Pepe Jeans has appointed a director of

communications to help its drive into the European market.

Neil Stevens has rejoined the firm from London-based PR company

Exposure, where he was an account director for two years, working on the

agency's Levi Strauss & Co account.

Stevens indicated a fresh set of consumer PR pitches might be in the


Pepe hired youth marketing specialist 3rd Rail to handle European PR for

Pepe Jeans London in January last year (PRWeek, 21 January 2000).

Stevens will continue to work with the agency. 'I will review the

situation to see if it is necessary to hire more external agencies in

European countries,' he said.

He previously worked for Pepe as European PR manager for two years. His

re-appointment is part of the company's 'integrated approach to future

developments' for retail, sales and communications in Europe.

Based in Amsterdam, Stevens will report to creative director Rob


He will be responsible for the strategic direction of all 'presence and

publicity activity' for key European and UK markets.

'I will work with the marketing, sales and creative teams, and will

oversee a review of our above and below the line activities. I will also

act as spokesman for the brand in Europe with the trade and consumer

press,' said Stevens.

Pepe is one of the Top 5 UK jeans brands in a market which is dominated

by American brands Levi, Wrangler and Lee.
