The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), launched as part of the 2010 defence review with a remit to oversee military homes, has a tender out for an agency to explain its cost-cutting measures.

The DIO is responsible for one per cent of UK land and maintains the homes of 49,000 service personnel. It was created when the former Defence Estates organisation was brought together with other property and infrastructure functions within the MoD.

The appointed agency is expected to work until February 2014.

The 2010 defence review is designed to cut the £38bn defence budget by eight per cent over four years.
