The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has appointed Alan Leaman
as head of media and political affairs.
This newly-created post builds on Leaman's political credentials as
press secretary to Paddy Ashdown MP and later as director of strategy
for the Liberal Democrats until 1997.
Prior to moving to ABI, Leaman was a senior associate director at Hill &
The ABI post is an enhanced position, building on the association's
previous media operations work, bringing media relations together with
PA for the first time.
Leaman said it would help the ABI to address the pressing issues facing
the UK insurance industry.

The media and political affairs department is focusing on the various
reviews of the industry being undertaken by the Government and by
agencies such as the Financial Services Authority.
