MTV Networks Europe has handed Joe Public Relations responsibility
for managing the TV station's on-island PR efforts in Ibiza this
The appointment will see JPR focus on an MTV event at the San Rafael
Hipodromo, which marks the culmination of the MTV Ibiza 2001 Club
The agency will work with local and British-based media, as well as
'opinion-formers' to grab attention for the event.
JPR associate director Kevin Redfern will head the account, aided by
Andy Wilson, who will work from the seasonal Ibizan office the agency
established last year.
The account reports to MTV Europe communications manager Polly Stevens,
who added that the broadcaster sought to encourage local media and young
Ibizans to 'feel involved and part of the event on their island'.
Having circulated information about its Ibiza office, the agency was
approached by MTV.
Presentations to the client led to the appointment without a competitive
JPR will manage the account on a project basis and will look to renew
the arrangement for 2002, depending on the success of the coming months'
The main event will include performances from Roger Sanchez and
Faithless, performing to an expected crowd of 20,000.
JPR has been joined in the Balearic market this year by Capitalize,
which is operating out of Ibiza Town from May to September, representing
clients including Bacardi-Martini, and Pringles - the latter a sponsor
of the MTV events (PRWeek, 20 April).
