Forster aids pay council

The UK's payment services body is to launch a comms drive to educate older people about modern payment methods.

The Payments Council, whose members include high street banks HSBC and Santander, has brought in Forster Communications to spearhead the work.

The agency's remit includes educating older people about the various ways to make payments, from traditional methods to online banking.

The move comes after the council had to drop its plans to phase out cheques by 2018 after widespread objections from businesses and the public last year.

Forster Communications associate director George Ames said that cheques might still be among the recommended payment methods.

He said: 'It's more about spreading awareness of the options that are out there.'

Ames will lead the team and report to the Payments Council head of PR Emma Smith for the retainer brief that will last until December, with the option of extending into next year.
