As policy and media adviser for Sustrans, Joe Williams will lobby MPs on issues such as the introduction of a nationwide 20mph limit in residential zones. This has already been enforced at a local level by councils in Islington, Portsmouth and Liverpool.
Williams, who provided the entirety of the Green Party mayoral press function, said it was a conversation in the back of a minicab which led to Jones' widely lauded call for all election candidates to publish their accounts.
He said: ‘During election campaigns the pace is very fast and responding to things quickly is very important - it was actually a conversation we had in a taxi which resulted in Jenny challenging the other candidates to reveal their tax affairs on Newsnight.'
The position is initially for three months, and covers the maternity leave of Eleanor Beasley.
Williams added: ‘My role at Sustrans will be to try to ensure we are more influential as an organisation, bringing together the policy and communications functions of the organisation.’
