Public Sector: The Public Sector Week

John Shewell, head of comms at Brighton and Hove City Council, has written this week's public sector column on moves to involve the public in innovating local public services. To read it, go to and click on public sector.

The PRCA's annual benchmarking survey has revealed that public sector account work as a proportion of fee income is just two per cent - three per cent down on the survey's previous yearly figure. This breaks down to one per cent for central government and one per cent for local government. The survey also revealed that overall fee incomes and salaries have gone up, despite the economic downturn.

Kathryn Myers is set to become head of comms for Camden Council following the departure of Paul Inglefield. Myers will take on the role having led strategic comms at the London Legacy Development Corporation. She has also been assistant director of strategy and comms at Waltham Forest Council and head of comms at Hackney Council.

Hackney Council will be doubling the frequency of its publication Hackney Today as part of the comms effort around the 2012 Olympic Games. Hackney Today will temporarily go from a fortnightly to a weekly newspaper from 23 July through to the beginning of September.
