With nearly 85 million people, Egypt is the most populous country in the Arab world, and its PR industry has come a long way in a short space of time. Nada Rezk, head of North Africa media relations at Huawei Technologies, said: 'PR is the most important tool companies have for delivering their messages in a credible, affordable way.'
The number of internet users in Egypt grew 21 per cent in the 12 months to May 2011. Between March and May 2011, Facebook gained more than half a million new Egyptian users, representing growth of 38 per cent in just three months. Meanwhile, there are more than 500 newspapers, journals and magazines in the country.
FMCG brands have a strong editorial presence in Egypt, with Nestle, P&G and Coca-Cola leading the way. IT and telecoms is another major sector.
