IPC SouthBank monthly 19 magazine has found a new deputy editor
after a search lasting several months.
Kathy Petrie - currently acting deputy editor of Attic Futura's
216,600-circulation B magazine - will join on 15 August.
19 editor Samantha Warwick said: 'It is a general role but she will have
special responsibility for our celebrity section, Scene & Heard.' Petrie
will oversee celebrity writer Louise Christie.
Petrie replaces Debbie Atwell, who left to freelance. The current acting
deputy editor, Claire Baylis, who was standing in for Atwell, is leaving
Petrie will work closely with the features desk, Warwick said. Features
director Nicola Gill is to leave next month to freelance, creating
another vacancy on the title, but Gill will continue to contribute to
Although Warwick said that maintaining the 133,800-selling title's
performance was the main priority in the near future, she hinted that
change may be in the offing following Petrie's appointment.
'When Kathy comes on board it will be a good opportunity to re-look at
the magazine,' she said.
Petrie's departure from B will come towards the end of her six month
contract. She was covering for Eliza O'Hare, associate editor, who has
been acting editor in the absence of editor-in-chief Gina Johnson.
Johnson will return from maternity leave in the next few weeks.
Petrie had previously been at Emap Elan's fortnightly glossy More! as
deputy features editor. She also worked on the pre-launch of the
National Magazine Company's Cosmo Girl, which will hit the streets in
September, where she worked under Baylis.
Petrie was also on the staff at B for two years up to January 2000 and
has freelanced for 19.
Attic Futura closed its health and beauty title, Shine, last week
(PRWeek, 13 July).
