DIARY: Phoenix rises from the ashes into C&W Ellis's media-managed hype

Cohn & Wolfe boss Martin Ellis has, of late, been ignoring advice

on not working with children and animals, taking on plucky little heifer

Phoenix the calf as his latest client.

The celebrity cow - eerily born on Good Friday the 13th - has attracted

such media attention since her lucky escape from a mass foot-and-mouth

cull that her owners Michaela and Philip Board have drafted in C&W for

PR support.

Acting as half PRO and half agent, Ellis is managing all the media

enquiries, sponsorship and celebrity appearance opportunities

surrounding Phoenix - who has just received the all clear from


Currently grazing happily at Clarence Farm in Devon, Phoenix must be a

dream client compared to the usual - not only is she good-natured, cute

and cuddly, but also unable to talk back.

'Phoenix is a serious client,' protests Ellis. 'The challenge is talking

to journalists who laugh about it. There's a degree of humour

surrounding Phoenix but there's a real commercial opportunity too.'
