UKTV to set up roster amid focus on shows without UK 'heritage'

A major player in the UK broadcasting market is on the hunt for a roster as it looks to build the profile of its programmes.

UKTV, which owns a network of ten channels including Dave and Alibi, is looking to pick two to three agencies for ongoing consumer projects covering entertainment, lifestyle and factual.

Zoe Clapp was made UKTV head of comms in January and said the move followed an internal comms reshuffle.

This will see Kerry Parker join from Premier PR to become corporate comms manager at the end of the month. She will oversee corporate, public affairs and internal comms.

‘We’re in the middle of a growth story at the moment and it’s a good time for us to reassess where we are when it comes to publicity,' she said.

‘We want to have the best of both worlds so we can keep things fresh and hire in creativity while being able to build up a relationship between the channels and agencies.’

Currently, the company brings in agencies for project briefs, with Hope&Glory and Taylor Herring among those who have recently worked with the company.

Among its hit shows is Dynamo: Magician Impossible, launched with a stunt in which the magician appeared to walk on the Thames.

Clapp added that the success of programmes acquired by the company such as Body of Proof and Suits, which lack a ‘heritage’ in the UK ‘have made PR hugely important’.

UKTV was formed in 1997 and is an independent joint venture between BBC Worldwide and Scripps Networks International.
