City & Corporate: Retail property body calls in Redwood

The industry body representing the UK's retail property sector has brought in agency support to help build the organisation's profile as pressure mounts on the high street.

The British Council for Shopping Centres (BCSC) has appointed property specialist Redwood Consulting to work on strategic comms and PR from April.

The agency will look to deliver a media relations and thought-leadership campaign to build the body's national profile and influence in the private and public sectors.

BCSC chief executive Michael Green said Redwood would support the organisation's 'wide-reaching campaigning activity' in what was an 'incredibly important period for UK retail property'.

At the time of going to press, the Government was poised to publish a new planning framework, which is set to encourage the development of sustainable shopping developments by cutting regulatory red tape.

Additionally, at a time when traditional retailers are facing pressure from online shopping, the Government is preparing to implement the Portas Review, which was published in December.

This week, administrators at high street retailer Game announced the closure of 277 UK stores and the loss of 2,100 jobs.
