Fleishman-Hillard has won a multi-million-dollar tourism PR contract with the US state of Illinois from long-time incumbent Edelman.

The contract is with the state's Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, which oversees the tourism office. F-H's contract is worth more than £9m.

Cake Group is helping to lead social media strategy for flip-flop company Havaianas, focusing on partnerships and branded content in its 2012 promotions, including partnering with US Elle magazine.

APCO Worldwide's international advisory council has taken on Phyllis Piano as a senior counsellor. She was previously vice-president of corporate comms and philanthropy at biotechnology company Amgen.

Dynamo has been appointed to run global PR, social media and comms for the makers of Echoer, a free smartphone app for local news and views. It will launch initially in Canada, followed by campaigns in the US, Europe and Asia.

Maaii, a Hong Kong company offering a smartphone app for free calling and instant messaging, has appointed Bite Communications to support its global launch.
