Year-long search ends as Virgin One fills PR head post

Virgin One - the current account and mortgage arm of the Virgin

Group - has ended its year-long search for a head of PR, appointing

James Duffell.

He takes on the role from the previous PR boss Adrian Webb.

Virgin One has since been trying to fill the post, which reports

straight to Virgin One marketing director Jo Barnett.

Duffell joins from Norwich Union, where he acted as head of PR for its

general insurance division.

Prior to Norwich Union's merger with CGU in February, Duffell headed

NU's corporate media relations function.

An NU spokesman said it is currently recruiting to replace Duffell and

expects to make an announcement in the next few weeks.

In his latest role, Duffell takes on responsibility for media relations,

PR and managing Virgin One's external agency Consolidated


'Part of my job is to try and work out which messages to put forward and

which not to,' said Duffell. 'It's a managerial role to look at

long-term strategies,' he added.
