Packer shuts down firm to raise GSB corp profile

Giant PR managing director Malcolm Packer has closed his company

and gone to work in-house for what was formerly his biggest client.

Granada Sky Broadcasting (GSB) has effectively shut down Giant

two-and-a-half years after it was formed by hiring Packer as head of

press and public relations.

For 18 months, Giant had worked on campaigns for LA Law, Batman and

Miami Vice alongside GSB's in-house team.

Other clients included the Big Breakfast, Channel 4 and BSkyB but the

company had been hit by GSB's decision to handle more work in-house.

'I could have carried on at Giant,' said Packer. 'But work is

increasingly being done in-house in the current climate and this is a

fantastic opportunity to forge ahead.'

Packer, who will head a team of four, will concentrate on raising GSB's

corporate profile.

He will report to director of marketing Jane Cook and replaces Jane

Stephenson, who has gone to TV company Hallmark.

GSB, which formed four years ago, has three channels: Plus, Breeze, and

Men & Motors.
