Borkowski PR is understood to have signed a deal worth an estimated
six-figure fee to handle consumer PR for Eurostar.
Eurostar head of PR Deborah Aspin was unavailable for comment, but it is
believed Borkowski won the brief following a pitch involving at least
three other agencies.
It is understood Dee McCourt will head the Borkowski account with
Eurostar, the operating company for the cross-channel train service.
Borkowski's new business manager Larry Franks declined to elaborate.
Eurostar is jointly owned by a UK consortium, the French national rail
operator SNCF and its Belgian equivalent SNCB.
The loss-making company has reported a 12 per cent increase in revenue
for 2000, despite months of disruption to UK rail services. It expects
to become profitable by 2003.
In June 1999, Citigate Westminster won an account to handle public
services PR for Eurostar. This followed a shake-up whereby core
functions including comms were centralised within a new London base.
An announcement on a corporate agency is expected in the next two weeks.
