Preston City CounciL has created a character to teach primary schoolchildren about litter, recycling and how to look after the area where they live. Bert the Binman is being used on activity packs and online games as part of the council's litter and recycling education programme.

The Cabinet Office has brought in Victoria Beckham to act as an international ambassador for the 'GREAT' Britain Campaign, helping to promote the best of Britain around the world. The announcement was made during New York Fashion Week. Beckham's involvement was revealed during an exclusive photo shoot for the launch of a 'GREAT'-branded subway train at New York's Grand Central Station.

Department FOR Communities and Local Government director of comms George Eykyn is set to speak at the LGcomms annual conference in Birmingham. The conference will take place at the Birmingham Council House from 29-31 May.
