Catherine Sleigh, UK head of press and PR at Skoda, confirmed that she was in talks with agencies for project-based contracts and that an appointment would be made in the coming weeks.
Sleigh added: ‘We will continue to work with Golly Slater as our retained UK agency and look for further PR support on a project-by-project basis.’
The news comes as Skoda is set to launch its small car Citigo in Europe in May, while it also communicates around the testing of the brand’s forthcoming electric vehicle, the Octavia Green E Line.
Other car companies that have recently reviewed their PR support include Fiat for its Jeep and Chrysler brands in the UK, and Nissan, which is looking for a UK-based agency to help co-ordinate its comms across Africa, the Middle East, India and Europe.
Peugeot hired Tangerine PR in January to consolidate two briefs previously handled by McCann Erickson and Wyndham-Leigh.
Skoda is bucking the economic trend as it has achieved registrations of more than 3,700 cars in January, a 22 per cent rise compared with the previous year.
Last week, Skoda’s marketing chief Juergen Stackmann announced it expects to sell the majority of its cars outside Europe by 2018.
