Foresight Communications is to sponsor the runaway First Division
It is worth clarifying that the league and team in question is not the
Nationwide and Fulham but the mighty Thames League, and senior civil
service side Fowlers FC.
The tie-in - initiated by Fowlers goalkeeper, Foresight MD and
ex-Downing Street private secretary Mark Adams - sees the side secure a
'multi-pound' sponsorship deal, furnishing the team with a new set of
strips vaguely similar to the Oldham Athletic away kit.
It is arguable that Adams stands to benefit most from the deal. Above
the average age but below the average height of the rest of the squad,
the ambitious goalkeeper admits that resorting to buying kit is 'the
only way (to) keep (his) place in the team', although he also concedes,
'in theory, it's a lobbying opportunity every time you step in the
Club manager and Treasury civil servant Duncan Melville refutes concerns
that much sought-after access was on offer. He says: 'To be honest, I've
conned Adams. Now we have this sponsorship deal, I'm going to drop him
and bring in a decent keeper.'
