Four senior posts bolster AstraZeneca in-house PR

AstraZeneca UK head of PR and communications Fiona Tigar has

boosted the pharmaceutical giant's in-house team, creating four senior

posts.

Tigar joined AstraZeneca in February last year with a brief to manage PR

for the company, which was created from the merger between Zeneca and

Astra in 1999.

She said: 'When I came in, I evaluated the needs of the company. The

board has understood the important role that communications

provides.'

Dominque Jaquest has been recruited from GCI Healthcare, where she was

account director, to take on the role of PR manager.

Jaquest heads a team of three and takes charge of brand PR, which was

previously carried out by the marketing team.

She said: 'My priorities are to help with the breast cancer portfolio

and Nexium. We want to increase their profile making sure our brands

receive full communications support.'

Ulcer drug Nexium suppresses the secretion of gastric acid.

Catherine Jankowicz has also been taken on, as corporate communications

executive leading PR for corporate and community programmes.

She joins from Cohn & Wolfe, where she was a senior account

executive.

Previous clients include Kimberly-Clark and Marks & Spencer.

Tigar is also seeking to further increase the 13-strong team by

appointing an internal communications manager and a publications

editor.

AstraZeneca, which specialises in ethical medical products, employs

10,000 in the UK and 50,000 worldwide. During 2000, its global

healthcare sales totalled pounds 10.8bn.
