Jackson moves from COI to head comms for LGIU

The Local Government Information Unit (LGIU) has named Central

Office of Information (COI) senior account manager Caryl Jackson as head

of communications.

Jackson joins next month and replaces James Odling-Smee, who has joined

Hertfordshire County Council as director of communications.

While at the COI, Jackson worked mainly on Home Office and Environment

Agency campaigns, including the recent successful police recruitment

campaign.

Since the campaign, Home Office figures show a 77 per cent increase in

recruits starting training this year.

When she joins the unit she will lead a team of three and report to

director Denis Reed.

Among her priorities will be promoting the unit's public affairs work on

the Government's revision of the code of conduct for local government

PROs.

In March 2000, the unit and the Society of County and Unitary Public

Relations Officers successfully lobbied the Commons/Lords local

government bill select committee to update the code.

Jackson has also worked at the Scottish Environment Protection Agency

and the Tourist Board of Scotland.
