PUBLIC SECTOR: Edelman lands science promotion remit

The Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council handed Edelman

public affairs a two-year contract to promote the social and economic

value of science. A four-strong account team, headed by Edelman director

of public affairs Bernard Hughes, will report to PPARC head of

communications Peter Barratt. 'It is crucially important that opinion

formers in both Westminster and Whitehall understand the social and

economic benefits that fundamental science generates for the UK,' said

Barratt. The PPARC is a government-funded body which invests in physics

and space science projects.
