Specsavers PR in Scotland heads to Beattie Media

Specsavers Opticians has appointed Beattie Media to handle a

broad-ranging remit of consumer and corporate PR for the firm's Scottish

Beattie Media was appointed following a five-way pitch, and is the first

agency Specsavers has retained specifically for Scotland. Specsavers

retains Barclay Stratton to handle its general British promotions.

The account will be led jointly by Beattie Media head of consumer PR

Laurna O'Donnell and senior account manager Valerie McEwan. They will

report to Specsavers UK PR managerJo Moody.

O'Donnell suggested that 'increased activity within the sector' had

prompted the move to localising promotions, which will be reviewed in 12

months time. Beattie Media will be conducting in-house research to

evaluate its effectiveness.

Specsavers, which launched in 1983, is the UK's leading retailer of

optical products, and operates via a network of stores jointly owned by

the firm and the practitioners who manage them.

The firm had investigated the possibility of expanding the strategy into

a dentistry arm, however this was put on hold in June last year when the

firm decided to focus on expanding its main optical services.
