The Guardian will launch its glossy Weekend magazine on April 21.
It is part of The Guardian's revamp of its Saturday offering -
increasingly seen as a key battleground for daily newspapers.
Katherine Viner will continue to edit Weekend, which will carry 60 per
cent more editorial with new sections: beauty, edited by Hadley Freeman;
and fashion, edited by Jess Cartner-Morley.
Regular contributors, such as Julie Burchill, are retained. New ones
include Louis Theroux, Zoe Ball on beauty and make-up, and Arabella Weir
on fitness. The weekly news digest, The Editor, moves to Saturday, as
does property section Space, which will be incorporated into Weekend and
lose its London bias.
Sport on Saturdays and Mondays will also expand, becoming tabloid
pull-outs of 28 and 32 pages respectively.
