The move is thought to represent a consolidation of PayPal's UK PR into Edelman, an agency it already uses in key areas across the globe. UK agency Lansons Communications was the incumbent.

Edelman is the agency of record for PayPal owner eBay in North America and Asia-Pacific, as well as handling PR for PayPal Australia. PayPal Asia-Pacific is currently handled by Text100.

It is believed that the account will be led out of Edelman's UK consumer arm JCPR. Both JCPR and PayPal declined to comment.

The consolidation of the account comes after US tech giant Hewlett-Packard last week dropped its international corporate PR agencies Bite Communications and Weber Shandwick to put all its corporate work into its existing North American agency Burson-Marsteller.

The pitch process was revealed on prweek.com and it is thought Edelman will be asked to raise the company’s profile with consumers as well as positioning PayPal as a leading payment technology firm under the banner ‘The future of money’.
