INTERNATIONAL: Swissair selects ex-journalist for corp comms role

ZURICH: Swissair has named Rainer Meier as its corporate

communications chief.

The Swiss airline and leisure group - SairGroup's best-known subsidiary

- has handed Meier the brief in place of Beatrice Tschanz, who resigned

towards the end of last month after four years with the firm. Meier was

previously Tschanz's deputy.

Former journalist Meier has initially been tasked with helping

communicate the rebranding of Swissair, which recently changed its

corporate name from SairGroup.

SairGroup chairman Mario Corti announced the name-change towards the end

of last month at a shareholder meeting held at Zurich Airport.

He also announced that the group - which has recently suffered

disappointing financial results - would be selling off its holdings in

two French regional carriers, AOM and Air Liberte.
