SINGAPORE: Ogilvy PR Worldwide has secured a contract with APEC,
the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation forum, which promotes free trade
in the region.
The agency has been appointed on an initial four-month brief to review
APEC's public affairs programme and communication strategies, covering a
range of countries, including China, Japan, Australia and Russia.
Ogilvy Singapore MD Ong Hock Chuan will head the account. Singapore is
also the home of the forum's secretariat offices and Chuan will report
to APEC public affairs director Sheryl Lowe.
A core team of eight from Singapore, the research and development hub in
Washington DC, and Beijing will work on the account, which the agency
said it 'hopes to grow' into a longer contract.
China is currently holding presidency of APEC and two PROs from Ogilvy's
China offices have been assigned to work on the brief.
'We are pleased to be working with Ogilvy in charting the scope and
direction of future APEC communications,' said Lowe.
APEC member economies include Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China,
Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, the US and
Ogilvy's Singapore, China and Washington DC operations will be heavily
