Guardian PR unit supremo moves on to freelance

The architect of The Guardian's PR function, Camilla Nicholls, will

leave at the end of June, after 12 years at the company.

Nicholls is leaving her post as head of press, PR and corporate affairs

at Guardian Newspapers to pursue a string of freelance


She revolutionised the company's PR function, setting up one of Fleet

Street's first in-house PR departments for the newspaper before

expanding it to take in The Observer and GuardianUnlimited.

Nicholls developed a sponsorship and events programme including the

group's relationship with the Tate Galleries, sponsorship of the

Glastonbury festival, and The Guardian First Book and Student Media


PR manager Julie Turner, Nicholls' deputy, said no decision on a

replacement had yet been made. Nicholls manages a team of 11 covering

PR, events and sponsorship.
