Discovery Networks Europe (DNE) - known for its flagship nature
brand the Discovery Channel - has handed its director of PR post to Liz
Healy, who was previously PR manager, takes on the recently-created post
with plans to extend Discovery's PR representation across Europe.
She confirmed part of this drive will include drafting in agencies in
central and eastern Europe to bolster their existing network, which
includes consultancies in Poland, the Nordic and Benelux countries.
'Our philosophy is to have retained local PR agencies in the regions we
cover,' said Healy, who heads a seven-strong team.
'We have expanded our distribution and Europe is a big growth area for
us,' she added.
Healy's promotion comes after DNE's former director of corporate
communications Virginia Lee moved to the channel's Brussels office to
become director of corporate affairs.
Alongside Healy's appointment, DNE has also taken on Kirsty Barr to
oversee PR for the Discovery Channel in the UK, Europe, Middle East and
As the Discovery Channel's dedicated press officer for EMEA, Barr has a
remit to handle all UK media relations for the channel, to roll out the
strategy for programme publicity and to support distribution, which
covers 49 territories.
Barr previously worked at MacLaurin and Starfish Communications.
DNE currently operates nine brands on ten channels, including the
Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Discovery Travel and Adventure.
