DIARY: Amnesty's embassy tour captures imaginations

Best PR stunt of recent times goes to Amnesty International's tour

of embassies, aided and abetted by comedian Eddie Izzard and Borkowski

PR.

One of the most poignant parts was a visit to the Argentinean Embassy.

The Falklands-coveting nation is accused by Amnesty of arresting and

murdering an individual because she was a transvestite.

Famed cross-dresser Izzard moved onto the Argentinean property (which

according to international law is legally part of the South American

state), before declaring 'I cross-dress, I'm a transvestite, and I'm on

Argentinean territory. Come on, arrest me!'

Although PRWeek reported on a complaint about the press releases issued

as a part of the promotions for the 'We Know Where You Live' 40th

anniversary, Borkowski claims to have received 'sackfuls' of letters of

support from journalists. Freelance Chrissy Iley wrote to the agency,

declaring 'It was a very smart and effective blend of style and

substance, and I think I can safely say no one manages it so

consistently or so imaginatively as Borkowski PR does'.

Borkoswki PR account director Joanne McNally said the charity 'could

have had a bog standard launch, but decided on something higher

profile'.
