MEDIA: Kimber secures BBC's first radio online head post

The BBC has promoted Chris Kimber, currently BBC Radio 1 online

manager, to become the corporation's first head of radio online.

Kimber's remit means he will be responsible for online strategy and

editorial control at BBC Radios 1 to 5 Live.

He will also be in charge of developing Radio 5's proposed digital

services, although these are subject to approval from the Department for

Culture, Media and Sport. Kimber oversaw Radio 1 Online's relaunch last

February.

He will report to Simon Nelson, controller new media, BBC radio and

music.

Kimber has also been a radio producer, with credits such as The Locker

Room and Loose Ends on Radio 4 and The Treatment on Radio 5. He sees his

latest job partly as exploiting the synergies between radio and internet

broadcasting.
