Macmillan Cancer Support has promoted Mike Hobday to the newly created role of director of policy and research. Hobday has been head of campaigns, policy and public affairs at Macmillan since 2008. He takes up his new post on 7 November.

The National Trust has launched an iPhone app that will enable garden enthusiasts and day-trippers to explore National Trust gardens whenever they want. The app includes listings and descriptions of all 150 National Trust gardens in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and a browse and search facility.

Life Size Media, the agency aimed at promoting sustainable innovators, is offering its services free of charge to social enterprise The DoNation. The DoNation is a new sponsorship platform where people donate by doing activities. Anyone taking part in a challenging event can register and invite their supporters to join in.

Woodland Trust comms director Alan Kennedy has resigned in order to spend time with his new son. The director of comms role is under review and will be filled in the coming months. A spokeswoman said the role would have 'a strong external focus and the ideal candidate will be able to use their comms expertise to engage key stakeholders'.
