Transport for London (TfL) has namedColin Douglas as its first
Douglas joins in June from Sport England where he holds the same
position. Reporting to commissioner Bob Kiley, he will head a team of 25
at the TfL, Mayor Ken Livingstone's integrated transport authority for
The post has been covered in the interim by Government Office for London
director Liz Meek, who was appointed last year on secondment. She left
TfL last month.
One of Douglas's priorities is to co-ordinate a communication strategy
for the commission's battle with the Government over the future of the
The Government wants to run the tube with a public private partnership,
however Kiley and Livingstone object to the plans, saying it will affect
safety. They prefer a unified management system.
Douglas described transport as the number one priority for London and
pledged to bring in a campaign of public liaison alongside media and
public affairs work.
