It is understood that Exposure won a four-way competitive pitch earlier this summer to handle the launch, announced earlier this week.
Exposure will serve as Netflix’s PR agency of record for the UK & Ireland, handling consumer PR and b2b.
The US company will expand into the UK and Ireland in early 2012, offering unlimited TV shows and films over the internet to TVs and computers for a monthly subscription.
Netflix has been streaming to US subscribers since 2007, adding Canada in 2010 and 43 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean in September 2011. The service currently has more than 25 million members.
Netflix previously planned to launch in the UK back in 2004, employing Frank PR to handle its UK PR. However, the company subsequently cancelled its expansion plans to concentrate on its US business.
Netflix was heavily criticised during the summer over a failed attempt to separate its US business so that members paid for streaming and postal rentals separately. This week it emerged the company lost 800,000 subscribers during the third quarter. Netflix’s shareprice has dropped by over two-thirds since the summer.
