Housebuilder Wilson Connolly - better known as Wilcon Homes - has
hired Chelgate to oversee all internal and external communications.
The two-year contract was won after a competitive pitch against three
agencies and is worth a six-figure annual fee.
Chelgate's programme includes corporate and environmental PR, public
affairs, consumer and internal communications.
Senior counsellor Michael Hardware will head the account. Hardware, who
specialises in construction PR, will report to Wilcon sales and
marketing director Joe Kinrick, and will lead a team of eight.
This is the first time Wilcon, the UK's fourth largest housebuilding
firm, has contracted an outside agency to handle its PR. In the past, it
has relied on its in-house team and agencies for specific projects.
The firm builds more than 4,000 homes each year, mainly under the Wilcon
Homes brand. The group's head office is in Northampton, but it has nine
further regional offices across the country.
Earlier last month, the company announced its acquisition of rival
