Surrey Uni chooses comms head

Surrey University has recruited Liz Morgan-Lewis as head of

communications.

She joins from the Medical Research Council where she was head of

corporate communications.

The post had been vacant since the departure of head of PR Mick Claridge

In the interim, PR work has been carried out by head of marketing Trevor

Thorne.

Morgan-Lewis will work alongside Thorne and report to vice-chancellor

Professor Patrick Dowling.

Heading a six-strong team, Morgan-Lewis is in charge of media relations,

web design, internal communications and events and exhibitions.

'We have a 98 per cent graduate employment rate and are involved in a

lot of work with businesses. That is something we will certainly be

promoting more,' she added.

During her 20-year career in PR, Morgan-Lewis has worked as a desk

officer for the Conservative Party's research department, at nuclear

energy company Nirex, and as media relations and publications manager at

Portsmouth University.

The Medical Research Council is recruiting for Morgan-Lewis's

replacement.

Surrey University is based in Guildford and has more than 9,000

full-time students.

The university has had its own satellite in space for the last 11

years.

The device hit the headlines earlier this year when it was used in the

relief operation in the aftermath of the earthquake in the Indian state

of Gujarat.
