Toyota GB forms government and corp affairs arm

Japanese car giant Toyota has set up a government and corporate

affairs operation to respond to 'challenging' UK and EU industrial

legislation.

Former Departments of the Environment and Transport civil servant

Michael Hawes has been appointed by Toyota GB chiefs to head the

unit.

He has been briefed to keep Toyota executives abreast of the political

and commercial challenges facing the industry from both Westminster and

Brussels directives.

'I will ensure the company is aware of - and able to respond to - the

significant issues affecting the industry, most notably the impact of

the increasingly stringent environmental regulations, and the ongoing

review of how cars are distributed and sold in the UK,' said Hawes.

Based at Toyota GB's Surrey HQ, he reports to director Mike Moran.

Hawes joins from Keene Public Affairs Consultants, where he has spent

the last five years as a director.
