Dell cuts back

10 October - Dell has pulled the plug on a planned Windows Phone Mango handset, according to rumours. Dell seems to be cutting back on support for its Android range as well. The Dell Wrigley, an updated Venue Pro, leaked a while ago, reports WPCentral, and now a source high up in Dell has told the site the Wrigley has been cancelled. And Dell won't be producing any other Windows Phone Mango handsets.

9 October - As we ponder what will happen to Apple without Steve Jobs, I keep coming back to a conversation I had a few weeks ago with a veteran Silicon Valley CEO who knew Jobs. We got talking about why Apple is so well-positioned in the post-PC era, and this executive zeroed in on something you don't hear too often. 'Steve Jobs told me he has 1,000 engineers working on chips,' he said. 'Getting low power and smaller is the key.'

Starbucks' free wi-fi

9 October - Starbucks has rolled out a new, free Wi-Fi offering to all 650 of its UK coffee houses. The system makes it easier to get online for Starbucks card holders and non-card holders alike. Previously, you've needed to be a member of the Starbucks reward scheme to access free Wi-Fi. Now users will be greeted with a pop-up that offers access by accepting Ts and Cs.
