Brookfield Asset Management has retained Smithfield to manage its comms in the UK and Europe. The global alternative asset manager focuses on property, infrastructure, private equity and renewable energy. It is dual-listed on the New York and Toronto Stock Exchanges. Brookfield has approximately $150bn of assets under management, including the 100 Bishopsgate tower.

Royal Dutch Shell has promoted Andy Norman to global media relations head. He becomes V-P media relations and will be based in London, leading a team of 30. Previously, he was head of comms at the firm's downstream division, having joined in 2005. He replaces Stuart Bruseth, who left in July to head comms at FTSE 100 energy firm BG Group.

Minera IRL, a Latin American-focused gold mining company, has appointed Buchanan as its UK financial PR adviser. The AIM-listed firm produces gold from the Corihuarmi mine in Peru and is building another two mines, Don Nicolas in Argentina and Ollachea in Peru.

Fluormin, a producer of acid grade mineral fluorspar in South Africa, Kenya and Tunisia, has brought in Tavistock Communications as its sole financial PR adviser. Tavistock's London resources team will advise Fluormin on investor relations and financial comms.
