Wicks to be head of PR as Octagon's brand expands

Former Weber Shandwick consumer and healthcare head Ruth Wicks is

joining global sports and event marketing group Octagon to lead its PR

strategy internationally.



Wicks will become Octagon's first dedicated head of PR when she takes up

the post of senior vice-president and director of PR in mid-May.



Reporting to Octagon joint managing director Matthew Wheeler, Wicks has

a remit to oversee all global PR and develop the brand.



Wheeler said Octagon - which is a member of the Interpublic Group

alongside WSW - had not needed an in-house PR chief until now.



Since it was founded in 1997, Octagon has made do with just one junior

in-house PRO.



'We now believe we need a senior PRO specifically to provide expertise

in that area,' said Wheeler.



'Octagon is becoming a global brand and we have to get our name out

there as it becomes known in our marketplace,' he added.



At WSW, Wicks has not been directly replaced.



Chris Genasi, WSW chief executive for the corporate sector, has taken on

the expanded role looking after consumer and healthcare, while associate

director Helen Craft has been promoted to director with a remit to

oversee the day-to-day running of the division, reporting to Genasi.



In February, Octagon's television production and distribution arm,

Octagon CSI, won, as part of a consortium, the overseas rights to the

Football Association Premier League for a three-year period.
