DIARY: Job-swap means lazy lunch as secretaries at Midnight celebrate

It was back to the floor for the top brass at Brighton-based

Midnight Communications as the firm celebrated national secretaries'

MD Caraline Brown, and directors Helen Yeardsley, Vicki Hughes, Claire

Mason and Anthony Mayfield were reduced to envelope stuffing, reception

duties and tea making.

In return, secretaries Sue Shanley, Alison Wright, Natalie Still and

Gemma Jackson assumed managerial duties.

Well, when the agency says managerial duties, the powers that be thought

better than to trust their firm in the hands of lower mortals. Instead

of cutting deals, hiring and firing and arranging the books, Shanley et

al spent most of their day at lunch.

Brown said: 'It is only by experience that you can understand what

people do on a day-to-day basis on our behalf. There's nothing for

appreciating the hard work that goes on like doing it yourself.'

Hopefully, the secretaries have now understood the influence of PR

directors on the restaurant trade. There's nothing like a long lunch to

make staff aware just what the board do all day.
