Public Affairs: The Week in Lobbying

Cabinet Office minister Nick Hurd has urged businesses to become more involved in the Big Society project.

Speaking at a fringe event at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester, Hurd named Barclays, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte, Asda and Sainsbury's as firms setting an example, and called on other businesses to follow suit.

Hanover has been appointed by PACT (Producers Alliance for Cinema and TV) to support its lobbying around the Communications Bill scoping exercise.

PACT represents independent film, TV, digital and animation companies.

Grayling Belgium has appointed Bell Pottinger Public Affairs director Kevin Doran as joint head of its EU public affairs team. He was until recently Brussels-based European affairs director for BPPA. Doran will join Grayling as co-MD, working alongside Jessica Adkins, who has been promoted from director.

Finance Watch, a Brussels-based advocacy organisation, has named its first head of public affairs. Joost Mulder was most recently an associate director at Kreab Gavin Anderson in Brussels.
